Oliver Worthington
Baritone Oliver Worthington’s performance credits include Austin Lyric Opera and The Austin Symphony, San Antonio Lyric Opera and The San Antonio Symphony as well as performances at many music festivals and recital halls throughout the south and southwest.  He has performed extensively as a soloist with choral organizations in oratorio as well.  In addition to the classical repertoire, he has given many musical theater performances. He has also served as music director for productions at regional theaters, including The Austin Playhouse and Unity Theater. For the fifth season of Lone Star Lyric Theater in Houston this past summer, he acted as a director/producer and also created two roles in five newly commissioned works for the company.  

Having studied voice with Jane Rolandi, Ed Zambara, Rose Taylor, and Joey Evans, among others, at Texas State Dr. Worthington will teach applied voice lessons to students majoring in music and musical theatre. In his previous position at Southwestern University, he Worthington worked closely with the opera program and music theater program and served as music director for the theater department’s musical productions for many years.  

He earned a music bachelor’s degree from Converse College, a Master of Music in performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin.   

Dr. Worthington serves as vice-president of the Fritz and Lavinia Jensen Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to advancing the musical arts through philanthropic giving.  The centerpiece of the organization is an annual vocal competition held in New York, which draws competitors from across the country.
